Mini Reviews: Marriage of Convenience, The Love Prison Made and Unmade, & The Wallflower Wager

I didn’t intend for this to happen, but all of today’s books have a strong romance theme! Hope you enjoy!

Title: Marriage of Convenience (The Raven Brothers #1)
Author: Katy Kaylee
Date Published: October 25, 2019
Rating: 3.5/5 stars
Date read: February 28, 2020

In order to claim his inheritance, Chase Raven’s father has decided he needs to fall in love, get married, and have a family. He “hires” his very sheltered, very innocent secretary Sara for the job.

I really enjoyed Marriage of Convenience, I thought the relationship between the two main characters developed organically and ended up being very sweet (p.s. this was 🔥🔥🔥).

Title: The Love Prison Made and Unmade
Author: Ebony Roberts
Date Published: July 9, 2019
Rating: 3.5/5
Date read: March 11, 2020

The Love Prison Made and Unmade tells of Ebony Roberts’s experience falling in and out of love with an incarcerated man.

What I liked: I really liked the discussions had on the prison system, what it’s like to be in a relationship with an incarcerated person, and how difficult it is to adapt back into society after being in prison for so long. I also enjoyed the writing of this story, Ebony Roberts is a fantastic writer. I also listened to the audiobook for this story, and it was great, Robin Miles is an incredible narrator.

What I didn’t like: well, nothing really, I mean the ending felt extremely abrupt, but that’s fair because Ebony hasn’t lived out her story yet.

This was just always going to be a story that didn’t quite work with me because I have a hard time investing in a relationship that is primarily built on letters, or emails, or phone calls, and that’s 100% a me thing. I think this story will work for a lot of people, and a lot of people will enjoy it, so if it sounds interesting to you then I highly recommend you pick it up.

Title: The Wallflower Wager (Girl Meets Duke #3)
Author: Tessa Dare
Date Published: August 13, 2019
Rating: 3.25/5 stars
Date read: March 14, 2020

The Wallflower Wager follows a young woman named Penny who loves to help helpless animals and who is neighbours to a ruthless duke. When Penny is offered an ultimatum by her aunt, either re-home all the animals and become an active member of society or move away from London, Penny, along with the help of her neighbour, try to improve her image and find new homes for her animals.

I’ve kept up with this series because I enjoy the audiobook narrator so much, but I think this’ll be the last of Tessa Dare for me, I can’t say historical romances particularly interest me, though maybe I just haven’t found ones I’ve loved yet. The writing in this novel is fine, and the characters are likeable enough, but I don’t love the setting or the set up. If you’ve enjoyed the other novels in the series then I’m sure you’ll like this one.

If you’ve read any of these books or plan to read them, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Happy reading 💗.
